New R2D Idea
So I was thinking about r2d's last night and I came up with an idea. What if each player was king or queen of there kingdom. They could build barracks and train soldiers and go for a take over of other kingdoms or they could go for a diplomatic view and help other kingdoms in return for help back. Anyways, here is all my ideas.
I have more ideas written down in my note book but I left that at school so I will not have it until Monday =/ I know it is not a ton of information, consider it a loose outline of how the game will be played. I also wasn't sure about a back story. I was thinking about one and I couldn't really find one that fit in really well with the idea behind the game. I had a few brief ones that included things like "King Arthur has granted you a piece of land to call your own and you are lord of that land. He is hoping that by granting you {insert number here}people he will be able to expand his rein into new locations" but I didn't really like the sound of that. If you want me to right a back story I could.

- Rules:
This is a D6 game, using the usual scale. Player's will not be on a team, how ever you may create alliances with each other.
Each player will get an action for there citizens, one for themselves and one for construction. If you would like to attack another player then you can PM me, thus having somewhat of a surprise or if you really want you could post it here but then they could prepare. You can also PM me your action if you want to scare everyone. There will be 6 kingdoms at a time and thus 6 players. There will probably be NPC kingdoms as well.
- Units:
There will be multiple types of military units. As you go on more will be unlocked. Here are the basics.
Militia: Most basic soldier, weakest but most affordable
Supply Troop: Used to carry supplies from one location to another UPGRADES to Supply Wagon
Scout: Send one to a city, when he returns he will have a approximate amount of defenses. Unless he dies.
Swords Men:Melee Unit, Strong against archers UPGRADES to Longsword to Battle Axe
Archers: Can hit targets from a distance, vulnerable up close UPGRADES to Longbow then Crossbow
Spear men: Basic heavily trained troop, long spear is effective against cavalry UPGRADES to Pike
Cavalry: Fast, stronger attack UPGRADES to Knight
These are the basic, I have multiple more ideas and would be willing to add ones that other people suggest
- Resources:
There will be 5 main resources. These will be used to construct buildings and train troops. You can get these by building special kinds of buildings. You defaultly gain 100 of each resource a turn. You can have a maximum of 12 of these in your capital and up to 3 in your towns. They are all upgradeable and have 10 levels. To figure out how much resources you will gather take the level and multiply it by 100. So if you have a level 2 farm your food will go from 100 to 300. A ROLL WILL DECIDE HOW WELL THESE ARE BUILT. 3 and under is fail, 4 and above is succeed. If you fail the resourced needed to build these will still be taken. I can not figure another way to do this so any suggestions are welcome. ONCE it is built the resource amount will stay the same until upgraded again.
Food: Build a farm to gather higher amounts of food. Used to feed troops
Wood: Build a logger's hut to gather higher amounts of wood. Used to construct buildings and train troops.
Stone: Build a quarry to gather higher amounts of stone. Used to construct buildings and train troops.
Ore: Build a mine to gather higher amounts of ore. Used to construct buildings and make a higher class weapons and armor for troops.
Gold: Hire a noble to collect tax to gather gold. Used to buy and sell resources to other. A noble will collect 10 gold per person per turn.
- towns and forts:
Every kingdom starts out with a city. This city will be your capital where your castle is and the majority of your population lives. You may build smaller towns in the wilderness and use them to gather more resources, such as farms and quarry's. You will have a tax, this can be different from town to town and you can hire a citizen to be your tax collector. Money will be in gold coins. You may also make a fort. A fort can be one of two things. 1. A place to hide troops so a scout can not see all of your troops and 2. A place to hide/store resources. 1 fort can also be used for both things at the same time.
- combat:
Combat will be based of a roll of a D10 die. If attacker is higher then he will successfully attack, if the defender wins they will successfully defend against the attack. You can get bonuses in combat. Say you had a surprise attack, that would be a plus 1 bonus. Size of your army can also result in a bonus. If the defender has twice the size of the army the attacker has then it will probably be a plus two bonus.

Hmm, a lot could be better, but I guess it will when it comes out in Games (mostly details)
It would be nice with a troop improvement thing, like we train the weakest type of soldiers int stronger like swordsmen, archers and that on, and
each type unlocks new branches, like archer unlocks Longbowman, Crossbowman
and etc. It would also be nice if there was like different resources and that all villages generate an amount of them per turn, and population needs resources each turn and somon

How would Regnar roll that? They would have to roll for how many resources each civvie makes for each resource type, and roll for how much population increases per village for 6 kingdoms + the NPC kingdom stuff...
But I agree on that you can unlock upgraded units, but maybe a different way to making the weaker type. Research maybe?

I did have other troops planned. There is a upgrade for everything except pike men i believe. I would have to check what I wrote down. I was also thinking about the resources idea.The resources could be like food, stone and wood. Maybe ore too. These can be used to feed troops and build your city bigger. How much you get depends on how well you build up resource collectors like farms and quarry.
I was also thinking about having to make buildings. Like maybe, you have to build certain buildings to unlock new things. For instance, a cottage would increase population or a barrack would allow you to train troops. Even an alchemy lab that lets you research different different upgrades like faster resource production, or archers with farther distance.

Maybe change pikemen to spearmen and make pikemen an upgrade?

Yeah, when you mention it, it sounds almost as hard to roll as to roll mine 11 players
oh, well OnT: a good idea could be to make a tile map where you
color different tiles depending on the owner (look at Zerovirus Roll2Survive, it has a good example)

Good idea. Then for everything else this is what I had... (I think... like I said it is all at school >.<)

You could also add Paladins that the player (King) will have to train himself under 2 turns to get 1 Paladin?

Ya, I wasn't sure with the seige weapons, I was just thinking ranged =/ But I agree, they should have a class of there own.

But thre wasn't Geneeals in Medieval, Generals, Sergeants, Luitnants ans so on came more at 1800-1900 something (As far as I know)

Now that I think about it. In the medieval times (or at least in the TV shows I've seen/ books i have read) it is often times a prince or higher up knight that would lead an army, so ya, general would be out of time period

A knight is the lowest noble in the hierachy. Lords would commonly have many knights under their command, so a knight leading an army would be odd.

This sounds really complex. I might write a computer program to do some or all of the rolls and calculations and record-keeping and such for you, once you've finalized the rules. What operating system are you using?
