Uh, right. Can any of us actually heal choking to death on water? Like, at all? (You still haven't explained how arcane shield works.)

The rolls were kinda disappointing- you just basically said "You all fail" because we rolled bad. Bad rolls do not excuse bad DMing, and even failure should be entertaining. Instead, it's more of a snub in our faces as players, the way you carried out failure.

I flop around and try to cough up the water.

Hm. Questions about Arcane Shield.

Is it stationary? How large is it? Does the wall have thickness, or is it a single plane? What power does one need to pierce it- or is it completely unbreakable? Is it always vertical, or can I put it at whatever angle I want? Does it support weight? How long does it last?

Yes.

How large is it?

Depends on how much you practice, but for now yours is 6ftx6ft.

Does the wall have thickness, or is it a single plane?

Single plane.

What power does one need to pierce it- or is it completely unbreakable?

Depends on how much you practice, but for now yours can take about 5 sword slashes, 4 crossbow bolts, 7 arrows, 10 dagger slashes, 3 axe slashes or 2 fireballs.

Is it always vertical, or can I put it at whatever angle I want?

Vertical.

Does it support weight?

No.

How long does it last?

Depends on practice, but for now, 10 mins.

Bravo. What say I create an arcane shield to bisect some soldiers in half with a perfect plane of force? Then again, if I roll low I'll probably end up chopping my own body in half, since apparently I can completely miss my intended target and hit myself with a spell. That would suck.

Maybe I could make someone fall on it. It has zero area on its edges since it's a perfect plane, so it'd be a physically ideal blade that would have much more cutting power than anything else. If you really wanted to go through physics it'd be able to cut atoms, but I guess that's just a bit over the top.

Perhaps I could research a variant of the spell to append such a perfect force-edge to a blade, so that our bladed weapons are extremely strong?

Also, it's a really poor shield spell that doesn't account for attacks from above or below. I thought mages were smarter than that Razz

Exactly my point- quite over the top, that would be. Instant disintegration with the alpha, beta, and gamma particles... Ouch. I'm sure the other stuff is applicable, though, right?
