R2D: Guardians of the Otherland
Hey guys,this is my new R2D. It is a fantasy story set in a middle age type era with magic and all manner of fantastical creatures.

- Backstory:
A long time ago, far to the west, Reimayil was an ancient and powerful civilization with all of the known world held firmly under its grip. But this great power came at a deadly price, for when the emperor died without announcing an heir, Reimayil fell into chaos. It's power-hungry senators and generals all put forth their own claims to the throne, creating a war for power. This war destroyed the nation as its great cities were reduced to rubble . Some nations emerged from the ashes and tried to salvage what was left of the great civilization, but these nations were wracked by war among themselves as well. Others moved in large groups, hoping to find new land across the uninhabited mountains to the east. Their journey was long and hard, but they finally reached new land,aptly named the Otherland. When they came upon it however, they had grown accustomed to the traveling life and chose not to settle, but instead roam the land as nomads. The large group split into separate tribes who began to attack each other. In this dark age, their history was lost. After many years some tribes began to settle, building small towns, walled in with palisades. Others were inspired to settle and as they did, the world changed. Many advancements were made, the building of quarry's gave access to stone, replacing the palisades and allowing greater structures, magnificent churches and castles. This period of change had not been without strife, there had been famine and disease, but through all there has been peace .The peace remained as the nations realized that they could do far greater work together than alone. There has not been a major conflict in almost two hundred years, though some noticed the building tension between nations and expected a war to come, none would have expected the war to begin with Daedalia as the aggressor. Daedalia was seen as a merchant nation, and the only soldiers in its land were thought to be merchant guards. Beginning with the sudden takeover of Kyammis, and following up with victories against other smaller countries, it moved onto the military power in the land, The Akadan Empire.
- Gameplay:
This game will use a d8 for all actions except combat
1: Epic Fail
2:Fail
3:Slight Fail
4:Fail without Penalties
5: Near Success
6: Slight Success
7: Success
8: Perfect Success
On your turn you have the option to have a major and a minor action. Major actions are use for training skills and doing anything major. Minor actions are for simple things like buying items and talking to people. In other words the major is your main focus and the minor is something off to the side
- Combat:
- Increasing skills and wielding weapons will increase your attack bonus depending on the level of the skill and the craftsmanship of the weapon. Better armor will give you a defense bonus. Rolls will be on a d20 for combat, as opposed to the d8 used for basic actions. Bonuses will increase the die rolled for you, giving a chance for a larger attack, penalties will have the opposite effect. Ex. You have a Steel sword for +2, but are dazed for -1, +2 would make it a d22, but -1 brings it down to a d21. Now lets say that you are attacking an armored goblin, his armor gives him +3, so instead of rolling the d21, it becomes a d18. If you roll higher than the enemy, you will deal damage based on your weapon or spells strength, if you roll lower, you will take damage based on the enemy's weapon strength.If your hitpoints fall below zero, you are dead.
Death: Depending on how brutal the action that brought them down to zero was, everyone has a chance to survive ONE time. Ex. Crushed by a boulder, you are dead. Slashed or stabbed by a sword, taking bleeding damage, a few turns till death if you are not helped.
- Magic:
- Go crazy. Be creative. You can learn magic ranging from simple spells like a fireball, to transforming into a bear for some amount of time. Just don't try things like "Destroy Planet" because that is bound to not end well. Damage and length of spells are determined by levels advanced in the respective skill.
Basic spells(ex.Fireball) require learning the basic magic of fire
Novice spells,()require at least one basic spell
Apprentice Spells,()require at least one Novice spell
Expert Spells,()require at least one Apprentice Spell
Master Spells,()require at least one expert spell
This is the path for learning one spell from every level of mastery, if you wish to learn two master spells, you need to learn two spells from every previous level and so on.
To learn a spell, there must not be a battle going on and it requires one turn of devotion to learning the spell, and another turn of comprehension following the turn where you can do something else. If you have a master or scroll to learn from, it eliminates the need for a turn of comprehension.
- Technology:
- Fitting to the time period, swords and bows. Mages are an uncommon sight, as it is quite rare to be born with the gift, but most of the time when you run into them they will be quite skilled, enough to either train you, or turn you to ashes.
- Currency:
- Simply gold, the currency of everywhere
- General information:
Everyone will be able to carry 100 lbs of items without penalties, after passing this amount it will begin to have a negative effect on their rolls. This limit can be increased through buying bags, each adding an extra 50 lbs of weight you can carry. You can buy a maximum of two bags, causing the highest possible weight that you can carry to be 200 lbs.
- Weapons:
These are the weapons available at the start of the game. Weapons purchased from stores are of average quality, and though most you may find from enemys are of lower quality than them, you may find weapons that are more powerful. - Crafting:
- You can create new weapons and armor through crafting . If you have certain items in your inventory, you can choose to try and craft them into a weapon or piece of armor. For example if i wish to create a flail, i can purchase an iron spiked ball and an iron rod from the materials store, as well as a chain from the general store, then through crafting I can assemble it. The dice would be rolled, and the item will become available in stores no matter what you roll. If you roll a 4 or less the weapon is not created, if you roll a 5 or 6 it is created, but if you roll a 7 then the item may have a slight bonus. Even if you don't create the item, after attempting it, it will become available in stores.

- Setting:
You awaken to the stench of corpses and blood, disoriented as you get up and look at the unfamiliar land around you. A battlefield. Your memories all come rushing back to you. You were fighting in the army of the Akadan empire against the invading forces of Daedalia. As the last line of defense before the capital, it was your duty to hold them back. Looking around at the carnage, you knew you had failed. The last thing you remember before being knocked out were the Daedalian forces smashing into your lines and a woman atop a black dragon casting lightning down upon you. So many questions, who was she? What provoked Daedalia? and what was the fate of the capital? You decide to find out about the capital for yourself, and prepare to head off, unfortunately the land is ripped apart, causing you not to know which way was the right way. As you prepare to head off in the opposite direction of the corpses, you hear a voice.
"Hey wait up!" says a soldier as he quickly gets up off the ground and runs to catch up with you. "If you're going to the city, I'll go with you. They call me FoolishBalloon, what's your name?"
You reply with an unintelligible grunt and prepare to head off to the city when FoolishBalloon steps in front of you.
"Hey, where are you going? There could be some other people who want to join us!"
As if in response to his statement, two other soldiers both got up off the ground. One seemed to be an average sized elf, but the other was a giant of a man who made the elf look tiny. They walked over to you, and seemed to have overheard your conversation.
"I'm Raspin Hongu," said the elf.
"And I am Voltir." said the man.
"Alright, great! Now let's get moving, it looks like a storms coming." said FoolishBalloon as he walked off.
You marched for quite some time until Voltir suddenly stopped, pointing to the sky " That storm is almost upon us, we should find shelter."
"Good point." says Raspin. "I see a cave over there, we can wait out the storm there."
You enter the cave and see an old firepit. Leaning down and pulling out your flint and steel, you manage to light a fire.
"It looks like we're going to be here for a while." said FoolishBalloon

oops, meant Darien And Darien, a wise option to only accept 4 players! I have 10, and will get 11 next roll, and that is like waaaay to many XD but it is fun, just takes 1 hour and 30 min to 2 hours. The longest roll (When I rolled Saimas story) was hours long, I really recommend you to learn writing 5x faster than you do now!

Added a setting, keep in mind that you all have a short sword, a buckler and 20 gold coins. They will be included in your inventory on the first roll

I'm not sure if you need a mentor or not to learn magic. If we don't,
Minor: Say "We will need all of the tools we can get to defend ourselves. I suggest we try to learn some magics to better our chances."
Major: I concentrate on the fire in the cave, trying to peer into the basics of fire manipulation. (Learn fire manipulation)
