Anailater
Mastery910
- General Rules:
- This is a D12 game, using the usual scale (1 is a fail, and 12 is a success).
6 players may play at a time, with a waiting list. Dead players may re-join the game, however without any of their items or experience.
Each player gets a major action, and a minor action each turn. Major actions are needed for training skills, while minor actions are things like talking to players, or walking to the general store.
I will roll as soon as everyone in the game is ready, waiting up to 24 hours for a player to post.
If you know that you will be unable to post, I will NPC you for up to 2 rolls or 1 day (whichever is longer), then put you on the waiting list.
This is a lighthearted fun R2D, so please keep it that way. Excessive swearing (don't worry about relevant in-game conversation) is not appreciated.
- Backstory:
- For years the cave had been used to train the newbie adventurers in the art of dungeon crawling. It was filled with all sorts of nasty things like spiders, goblins, and gelatinous blobs. Chests that magically re-stocked wooden swords and tiny healing potions. Really, it was a perfect training mission for swordsmen, mages, paladins, you name it.
But in the past 10 years the supply of giant rats and corrupted key lime pies started to dwindle from the cave. Now the cave is just a cesspool of stench and blood. Even the orc shamans don't dare enter for fear of catching a disease.
This may at first seem like a good thing, as some people have argued that the only good dungeon is a decimated dungeon. Even the wise druid Raquill has been recorded as saying “What's all of this fuss about a cave? And where are my crumpets?!”. Indeed, it seems like fewer and fewer people seem concerned about the sudden decrease in monster populations all around the kingdom. What they don't recognize is that without the weak monsters, no new heroes may be trained to combat the inevitable rise of evil rulers.
You have banded together with your friends to create the secret organization “Third Working Alliance for Longevity of dungeon Looters ” (or 3rdWALL) to investigate these strange happenings.
This is a typical Dungeons and Dragons fantasy medieval world, with all of your gelatinous cubes, wild boars, health potions, and other staples of fantasy worlds.
- Inventory System:
- You can generally carry any amount of small items (daggers, potions, sandwiches, scrolls) along with you without any penalties. Any larger items (full swords, shields, giant monuments to the god of death) have to be placed in a wagon or other method of transportation that could realistically carry the object in question (scabbard, large backpack, giant magical contraption, respectively).
The currency in this game is your standard copper/silver/gold coins worth 1/10/100. This is the standard method of payment throughout the world, and you'll most likely be able to sell just about anything to the merchants (they're crazy) for some quick cash.
- Skills/Abilities:
- In order to learn a skill or ability (e.g. stealthy walking, high jumping, more strength), you must train in it. However, you cannot just practice being stealthy while alone in a room. This would earn you a whopping 0xp in that skill. If you instead practiced sneaking behind someone in an empty area, you would get much more experience. Please note that the current amount of XP you have in any given skill will not be revealed.
Once you hit a certain amount of experience in a skill, you will be notified of your level up, and what kind of bonuses you will receive from it.
Please refer to the Magic section to see how the magic system works in this game.
- Combat System:
- Base attack formula (will be adjusted based on situation and other elements)
D10 + bonuses from weapon and skills/effects V.S. D10 + bonuses from armor and skills/effects
If attacks have X compared to defense
+6 or more: Kill or otherwise disable target (e.g. slice off head)
+5: Deal serious damage (e.g. slice off arm)
+4: Deal moderate damage (e.g. slice off hand)
+3: Deal decent damage (e.g. slice off some skin)
+2: Deal minor damage (e.g. slice a scratch in skin)
+1: Deal minor damage (e.g. cause bruise)
+0: Deal no damage
-1: Attack is dodged
-2 to -4: Attack is dodged. Defender gets a bonus of 1 to 2 on next attack
-5 or more: Attack is dodged. Defender gets immediate re-attack with a bonus of 0 to 3.
- Magic System:
Definitions:
X = Water, Fire, Air, Earth
Y = Light, Dark
Z = All heavily produced materials, such as plastic, rubber, glass, and elastic. Two elements are chosen instead of one from this category.
V = Any mix of two elements (e.g. fire and plastic to make molten plastic. If you had create and manipulate for both of them, it would take 2 turns.)
Clarification – When learning Manipulate X, you must pick one of the X elements to learn (such as Manipulate Air), and not all of the elements at once. This applies to all X, Y and V spells.
Spell definitions:
Manipulate (minor)
Move or shape the selected element in a simple fashion. Only small amounts of the material may be controlled (e.g. a glass of water, a small flame, low breeze, dim light)
Create (minor)
Create a small amount of the selected material. (e.g. an orange-sized ball of plastic, a glass of water, shadow the size of a door)
Manipulate
Move or shape the selected element. Medium amounts of the material may be controlled (e.g. a bucket of water, a campfire, gale of wind, window pane)
Create
Create a medium amount of the selected material. (e.g. a bucket of water, a mound of dirt, an elastic band the size of a human's waist)
Manipulate (major)
Move or shape the selected element however you choose. Almost any size of material can be controlled (e.g. a small lake, a small forest fire, moving the light away from a whole village)
Create (major)
Create a large amount of the selected material. (e.g. 10 gallons of water, create darkness throughout a whole village)
To learn a spell, you must meditate in a calm location (such as an inn) for one turn, and depending on the complexity of the spell and other factors, wait 0 -3 more turns to fully understand the inner workings of it. Level 1 spells are open to all players, but to unlock the next level, you must have the correlating amount of magic experience. This magic experience is displayed to you freely, and is accumulated by casting spells.
This is not a exhaustive list of available spells, only the ones known to your party. As you see other magics being cast, you may be able to learn them. In addition, you may "craft" new spells using magic already known to you. For instance, combine Create Water with Manipulate Air to create the new spell Rainstorm.

Hehe, yeah, I thought of something like a dragonman, and thought of dragongoblin
Re: Roll to Dodge: The Dungeon Crawlers
Name : Vignarvaeri Darasv
Race : half-dragon kobold
Physical traits : About five feet tall. Dull orange scales. Stubby dull golden horns. Tail like an alligator's but smaller. Draconic wings that I'm not strong enough to use. Female.
Other traits : I assume you mean personality... I'll develop that as the game progresses.
Backstory : My father was a kobold and my mother was a dragon. Developing in dragon eggs allowed me and my brother to grow exceptionally large for kobolds, and we rose to positions of prominence within the tribe. Eventually, internal schisms tore the tribe, and us, apart and left me on the losing side of a civil war. I fled with my remaining followers and established a new warren. After appointing my mate, a sorcerer, to rule in my stead, I left, promising to someday return with lots of magic stuff and lead my people to victory.
(You said that this is a "typical Dungeons and Dragons fantasy medieval world," so I'm assuming your kobolds are the same as theirs.)

Great! Both of your are accepted.
Here's the setting (feel free to post your first actions).
All three of you walk in to the local inn, prepared to talk about the strange happenings. Foolishballoon whispers "Where the heck are the other three?" just as the human innkeeper brings you to a table and says "Welcome! What can I get for you?"

Re: Roll to Dodge: The Dungeon Crawlers
Well, there goes my realm right out the window. Too similar to yours! Starting from scratch. But I'd love to join this one!
Name: Byrssh Ryrgysshi
Race: Raynar (Imagine a Cat Person...then replace "cat" with "fox".)
Physical Traits: 1.8 meters tall. White and rusty-orange-red fur. Long tail typical of foxes. Grey eyes. Wears brown clothing appropriate for adventuring in, and has iridescent sash with a difficult-to-determine hue. It seems to be blue, purple, red, and green, alternately depending on the angle from which inks viewed.
Background: A typical adventurer from the city of Abrogado-Rae. He seeks glory as a warrior, wealth from his spoils... and a trophy appropriate to bring home with him indicating his Rite of Passage is complete.
Those interested in learning more about the Raynar race are welcome to inquire, I love them! But be well aware that they are protected under a writer's copyright in the USA. I don't want them stolen for someone else's profit before my novel is complete! :-)
If accepted as a character:
Minor Action: Inquire about where to find a weapon vendor, notably one that sells polearms and bows.

Fine and dandy application. Feel free to enter the inn and meet up with your friends
Please excuse my lack of DND knowledge -- I may incorrectly GM specific species and creatures. I have a basic idea of the DND universe, but I'm not a huge RPer.
8680 -- Any heavily refined metals. Not an ore, but perhaps steel bars.

Thank you! Read the fine print, Raynar are my creation. :-)
And don't worry about "appropriate" portrayal of DND races...this is YOUR game...take whatever liberties you choose for DND! Would you like a synopsis on the Raynar?

I'm in.
Character name: Olimar
Race: Dragon / Elf
Physical traits: Beady red eyes, regular elf body, medium length brown hair, small pair of wings on my back, intimidating look.
Other traits:
Any other info: I was born in a very peaceful town in a forest, but it was simply too quiet, I needed someone to keep me company. I was quite lonely. My parents decided this would be a good place for me, so I set off to come here.
I will enter the inn and introduce myself to the other people

Since it's possible to learn, say, Minor Create Steel and Minor Create Glass in one turn, is it possible to learn Minor Create Steel and Minor Manipulate Steel in one turn?

Sorry 8680, but manipulate Z only opens up at level 4. (only the 4 elements are open to beginning adventurers)
I'll roll as soon as everyone has posted. (Darien is still left, but it's only been a few hours)
Edit: I will take your action as-is. I've realized that I'm railroading more than is needed.

It's rolling time
(I'm using http://www.wizards.com/dnd/dice/dice.htm for rolls. Any other suggestions?)
Foolishballoon[2]
You close your eyes and focus on the air around you. Suddenly, you feel a breeze come from nowhere! Quickly opening your eyes, you see that it was just Byrssh opening the door.
You feel a cold chill run down your spine.. Something about the air in here seems toxic. You develop a headache.
Effects: Headache (-2 to mental rolls)
Skills: None
Magic:
Level 1 – XP: 0
Byrssh Ryrgysshi [7]
You walk in through the front door, startling Foolishballoon. After meeting up with your friends, you go over to the innkeeper and ask him “Do you know where I could find a weapons shop? I'm looking for some pole-arms.” The innkeeper points you across the street, to a shop with the sign “Garnok Armory”. Looks nice enough.

Olimar[11]
You walk in and sit down with your friends. After saying hello, you get down to business. “What are your theories about the dungeon?” A shady figure from a nearby table overhears your conversation, and interrupts, “Those who are not affected by the disease are friends. Here. Take this.” as he hands you a leather bag with 3 silver coins in it. Immediately after, he runs off out of the inn and in to the crowds.

Vig[9]
You sit back, relax, and listen to the noise around you. You think back to the days before the civil war... Times of peace and prosperity. Your best friend was a fledgeling magician, and tried to teach you some of his tricks. You can remember bits and pieces of his teachings, and you now feel like you have a solid base of experience to use.
